Overview

“We just want a healthy baby!” is the phrase all expecting parents say. Knowing that autism and other complex needs are often triggered by environmental factors, we’ll cover strategies to consider before conception, during pregnancy, birth and beyond that can help avoid the onset of special needs. We’ll also talk through strategies to ensure healthy development and highlight the early red flags parents should not ignore.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Dr. Sonia McGowin

Dr. Sonia McGowin, DC, is the owner of Covenant Chiropractic & Wellness. She is a FOCUS and PX certified doctor. She is also MAPS-trained and Webster certified. For 14 years, she was the Deputy Director of Outreach Services for the Judevine Center for Autism, working with families with autism across 92 counties of Missouri.

The focus of her practice is children with complex needs, including learning disabilities, PANDAS, ADD/HD, autism and oral restrictions. She uses a brain-based and biomedical approach to address their specific issues.   Dr Sonia isn’t your ordinary chiropractor! She prides herself on being ‘Brain, not pain’. She works to find and address the neurology responsible for pediatric challenges.

Dr. McGowin is also a parent of a child who had unique needs. As a toddler, her son displayed many troubling issues such as a severe speech delay and self-injurious, aggressive behaviors. Traditional medicine offered no hope or help for her family. After undertaking biomedical intervention, he is now indistinguishable from his peers. She considers him her first recovery story!
